9.) Have We Forgotten

Every year I get a little more disappointed in society. My reason for making that statement stems from how we as a society have made Christmas so commercialized and outrageous.
The reason I say its commercialized is pretty obvious to anyone who has gone shopping. Before Halloween stores start putting out Christmas lights and decorations. Heck, we haven't even had Thanksgiving and some people are buying and putting up Christmas lights on their houses. Then there is the figurines you can buy and put up in your yard. Also, the Christmas music will start and that's all you'll hear. Department stores reap the benefits from their sales ad's because kids and adults start to get the "I want" syndrome. It gets pretty outrageous when parents start working overtime to pay for gifts. I worked with a woman who would work more and more hours to buy her kids Christmas presents. What was so outrageous about that was the amount per child she would spend($300.00). This upsets me because children are expecting their parents to spend allot of money on them now a days. We have taught our children to be greedy.
Please, don't think I'm against Christmas because I'm not. I just feel that through out the years we've lost the true meaning of the holiday. We are suppose to be celebrating the birth of our savior, our redeemer, our Jesus. Yet we have all gotten caught up in the "I want" syndrome of society.
My last thought is that I wander what Jesus thinks about how we are treating His birthday. Does He feel forgotten?

I had not really thought about it in that way. you brought up a good point. I agree with you stores do play christmas stuff way to early where you are sick of it by the time christmas is actually here.

I agree with the commercialization of Christmas. I think it is an incredibly important holiday, but people do need to realize the reason for the season.

You are so right. I think that has a society as a whole, we have forgotten the true reason for the season. We get so caught up in the presents, the lights, the food, the music that we forget what we are really celebrating. I do think that Jesus is very hurt by the fact that we have commercialized His birthday.

I do agree that our nation has lost the meaning of what Christmas is really about. I wonder when people began celebrating Christmas and how all of that began.

You nailed it on the head. People are so caught up in the lights, the decorations, the presents, and the time of year that they truly forget that Jesus is the real reason for Christmas.

Yeah it is kind of ridiculous that people skip right over thanksgiving and go straight to Christmas. And it really is all about the money.

Sentimental times becoming commercialized. That's the world for you.

Well, you are right - it starts earlier every year and the Christmas gifts getting bigger and more expensive every year.

However, I think there are much more things that make me sad about our society. That people are greedy overall, that they don't care about their neighbors, that people are selfish and egocentric, ...
And also that people don't care at all about Jesus! I don't think that he's sad because we forget his birthday (about this actual day, see below), but he's sad that we show him our back and don't want to accept him as our friend and savior!

Just a hint: theologians are pretty sure that Jesus' birth was not in winter when we celebrate Christmas ...
